Just 50 km (31 mi) northeast of Kamloops,
Sun Peaks Resort is an activity-packed getaway from hectic city life. Its location
in the Thompson Okanagan means
it averages over 2,000 hours of sunshine each year, and the surrounding mountains
provide perfect conditions for a myriad of outdoor adventures. Family-friendly,
the resort is designed to resemble a classic Alpine village, and residents and
vacationers enjoy several nearby amenities and top-notch facilities.
With 117 runs and 11 lifts, Sun
Peaks is Canada's third largest ski resort area, receiving 5.6 metres (18
feet) of snow each season. Golf lovers enjoy the challenging Resort
Golf Course, which sits at 1,200 metres (4,000 feet) and undulates along
with the mountain scenery. Water hazards come in the form of the often-present
McGillivray Creek, which supports alpine flowers and shrubs, deer, bear, coyotes,
and many species of birds. Daring athletes hurtle down 600 metres (2,000 ft)
at the resort's bike
park, one of the best in Canada. Other activities include sleigh
rides, snowmobiling,
hiking
and snowshoeing.
